Born in 1954, at the heart of France's postwar golden age, the Océanic Surcouf is no ordinary radio - it is an aesthetic revolution.
At a time when radios were little more than plain rectangular boxes, Océanic dared to curve. Designed in homage to the legendary privateer Robert Surcouf and inspired by the prows of great transatlantic liners, its V-shaped facade and soft ambient lighting made it an instant centrepiece in French living rooms.
Nicknamed "l'Oreille" for its daring silhouette, it embodies the elegance of French industrial design in the 1950s - a noble blend of lacquered wood, Bakelite and gilded details.

In 2013, my grandfather's vintage radio rekindled an unexpected flame within me. A family treasure, steeped in the soul of a bygone era, yet desperately silent. There was no way to listen to my playlists, my stations or my podcasts of today. It was not simply a switched-off device; it was a precious piece of our history that had fallen silent, condemned to a poignant stillness.
Faced with this silence, a bold spark arose. Together with my father, we set ourselves a challenge: to give it back its voice, to awaken its dormant essence. More than a technical project, it was a promise to memory, a deep commitment to our heritage. We worked with an almost surgical devotion to preserve every detail of its period appearance, every worn button.
Beneath this venerable shell, we breathed new life: invisible Bluetooth integration, a powerful Focal® speaker and modern, discreet connectivity. This striking contrast between old and new, silence and sound, amplifies the impact of this unique transformation.
The day the first pure sound escaped from its restored depths was an intense revelation. I had not only modernised a device, but had literally breathed life back into a piece of my family history, into the forgotten melody of our roots.
